Hello, good people of the internet! My name is Jillian, and I am about to embark on my challenge for the summer-- reading all of Jane Austen's novels.
When I get back to school in the Fall, I will be taking a course on Jane Austen. I checked the required books for the class the other day, and all six are on the list. I'm going to reread all of them now so it will be a little easier on my workload during the semester.
I decided to make this blog to make my life a little easier (and perhaps entertain you along the way). I'm going to update here every day that I read so I can come back when I'm taking the class and refresh my memory. It'll probably be pretty interesting, opinionated to say the least.
One would think that it would be most logical to read the novels in chronological order according to publishing dates, but I'm going to slightly diverge from that. I have never made it all the way though Emma. It is my least favorite (that's right, I can say that I like Mansfield Park more than it), and my only attempt at reading it in tenth grade stopped at the Christmas party. So, I will be starting with the dreaded Emma. After that I'll go in order: Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, Mansfield Park, Northanger Abbey, and Persuasion.
I am currently reading John Hillaby's A Walk through Britain, which I only have sixty-some more pages of, so hopefully Emma will be cracked into tonight if not tomorrow.
Here we go!
As a fellow Austen lover this excites me sooo much! You got my support! You can do it Jill!!! :D
ReplyDeleteI also cannot get through Emma! She drives me nuts. I've started it multiple times and just can't put up with her enough.
ReplyDeleteThis is so cute! I'll definitely come back to see your comments on the novels as you read them. :-)
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about "Emma." It is definitely my least favorite as well, and I also prefer "Mansfield Park" over it.
Thanks for your support, everyone!
